Community Equipment

We provide a dedicated technical support service to Northland's citizens who require equipment to enhance their ability to live independently. Generally this service is provided through the organisations that fund the equipment. Services we provide include:

  • vehicle modifications

  • lift installation and servicing

  • power chair servicing and repair

  • mobility scooter servicing and repair

  • walking frame, stroller, hoist and commode servicing and repairs

Our workshop facilities are located at 27b Hewlett Street, Whangarei and our main office nearby at 4 Fraser St. Our team also travels to clients to provide services from Warkworth north throughout Northland.

Our key clients are:

  • accessable (who manage equipment for both ACC and Ministry of Health clients)

  • NorthAble's EQ+ service

accessable receives applications from specialised assessors who request adaptive equipment, rehabilitation equipment, housing alterations and vehicle modifications on behalf of their clients. Once eligibility is confirmed, for Northland clients accessable arranges for Whangarei Engineering to provide and deliver the equipment or modifications (and follow-up technical support). Equipment collection
If you have equipment that was issued by the Ministry of Health or ACC and no longer require it, please give accessable a call and they will arrange to have us collect it at no cost to you or your family. You can also arrange a collection on their
online collection form

We are proud to be the preferred provider of workshop and technical support to NorthAble EQ+, who are the largest retailer of products, equipment and aids for daily living in Northland. They also provide equipment advice and a mobile service throughout Northland. Their equipment is available for purchase or hire. NorthAble is Northland's largest disability information centre, who offer free, friendly and independent advice and can link you to a range of information around funding, equipment, education, and recreation and support options. They also provide access to publicly-funded support services through their Needs Assessment Service Coordination (NASC) service.

Northland District Health Board's Wheelchair/Seating service

The Wheelchair/Seating service provides specialised wheelchair and seating assessments for clients who are eligible for funded equipment. They also provide a repair and maintenance service for manual wheelchairs for accessable. This service can be contacted on 09 430 4101 ext. 7157.

Tiaho Trust - Empowering Communities
